Why I like Math

I think I am my mom's only child who actually enjoys math and did well in the subject. I attribute this to Mortensen Math which I used up until second grade in a Montessori school. In Mortensen math, you use blocks to visualize and play with math. I liked doing math so much as a child that the first thing (and perhaps the last because I was caught) I stole was a pile of math workbooks. My own daughter will be starting kindergarten next year and I plan on purchasing a set of these blocks to help get her excited about the subject. You can purchase the kits here or here.

Yes, you are the only child who actually likes math! But I too love these blocks. I think I started hating math after I couldn't use blocks or anything to help me. I got lost after that. Gabby will have so much fun with these.

Hopefully they'll come out with blocks Gabby can use through college--do you think her professor's will mind her pulling out her block set in the middle of class?

Maybe I can try that when I start college, kind of as a test run for Gabby. We'll just have to see how that goes. I could always teach my professor a thing or two if he makes me put them away.
